Found an old entry

April 9, 2008

When I was getting off at Grand Central this morning, I saw a man getting up for the stop. However, his coat was stuck in between his seat and a pole. He tried yanking it out but it wouldn't budge. I went over and tried to help him too... but no success. I had to get off the train before the doors closed and when the train took off, I saw him still tugging at his coat. I told May what happened.

May: Maybe it was meant to be. Maybe he got off a stop later and met someone.
Me: He was 50... wait, MAYBE he met his first wife!
May: Maybe he met his first love! From when he was this tall! (4ft tall) They recognized each other immediately and walked all the way back to Grand Central together!

Baby Wigglet

My friend, Joe, and his wife, Miranda, decided to wait until Christmas to reveal the gender of their first-born child!! I think it's the cutest idea ever!

I went to Central Park the other night since it was John Lennon's 31st death anniversary. It's been unseasonably warm so the night was nice. We all partook in the day-long-Beatles-singalong, which is always fun. There was an old man standing in front of me and at one point, he sadly said "I can't remember the lyrics anymore." It made me sigh.

The 50 year span since Beatlesmania makes me wonder a lot of things. It is about the same stretch as their height and the turn of the century. Even though The Beatles were well before my time, I personally do not feel very far away from John or Paul or George or Ringo. I wonder if they felt the same closeness towards Van Gogh or Freud. And if so, did the latter feel the same way towards Liszt or Balzac?

Christmas didn't really hit me until tonight. I was on the subway platform when I heard a busker playing Auld Lang Syne on the violin. He played terribly but I think that's what triggered. It's the memory of joyful and drunk people singing off key at the stroke of midnight. And even though it's not quite Christmas, it's really the merge of all these holiday memories that end the year with hopes of a better one to come. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I can officially put on Nat King Cole music now.

Morning Adventure

Did I ever mention that I have a terrible fear of pigeons? After watching Alfred Hitchcock's Birds at the age of 12, I've been scared shitless of these creatures. Anyway, we found a pigeon chilling in the living room this morning.

Denisse and I were the only ones in the apartment. We tried to lead it towards the window and/or door but instead it flew to the kitchen and just sat on the counter. We tried leading it again with a broom but it just flew around and around. We screamed a lot. A LOT.

We were also scared it was going to poop so we had to hover ourselves with a blanket. Denisse waved the broom blindly towards the air. The bird fluttered back and forth until it found its way to the door and into hallway. Denisse managed to get the rooftop door open and it eventually flew out to the clear blue sky.

End result? I STILL HATE PIGEONS.
The end.
